Why You Should Book a Vacation for the Fall

Summer’s over, but that doesn’t mean you’ve missed your chance to book a relaxing vacation. Many people choose to book in the fall because of the multitude of benefits they receive during the cooler autumn season.

Fall festivals

There are many reasons you and your family should take a vacation in the fall, but one of the most riveting experiences you’ll have is at an autumn festival. Festivals, whether they are food, music, or arts and crafts centered, give your family a taste of the sights, smells, and traditions native to a particular region.

South Carolina’s long list of festival offerings are culturally rich and stimulating, steeped in civil war history and southern charm. There’s a festival dedicated to almost every activity, including apple picking, antiques, Native American history, and nature.

Beaufort, South Carolina is known largely for its annual shrimp festival, which is held every October in Lowcountry. Seafood lovers have the opportunity to sample marine cuisine from some of the area’s best restaurants and they also have a chance to walk along a harbor lined with lighted shrimp boats.

Best time to travel

People who prefer a more low-key travel experience may want to consider booking their trip during September and October, a time when condo and hotel rates on beachfront properties are significantly cheaper than if they were to book during the busy summer months. Airplane rates are also cheaper during the fall months.

Another benefit of booking in the fall: fewer crowds. Tourist season normally winds down in the fall, meaning you won’t have to fight the crowds for the best accommodations. Fripp Island is a popular destination among out-of-towners because of its beautiful location stretched along the coast of Beaufort, South Carolina, away from the busy streets and loud noises of metropolitan life. Some people never want to leave, so they claim a permanent piece of paradise!

The autumn season provides the perfect transitioning weather. It’s that time of year when the sun kisses our cheeks until the evening glow of dusk envelops us in breathtaking sight. It’s not too cold at this time of year, so packing for your fall vacation should be a breeze as you won’t need to worry about bringing a ton of bulky sweaters along with you. That means you’ll have more room in your suitcase for souvenirs!

Outdoor activities

For the avid nature adventurist, South Carolina provides the perfect outdoor playground. From beaches and outdoor lounges to hiking and biking trails, there’s an activity to suit the interests of every kind of outdoor enthusiast.

For the more laid-back nature enthusiast, there are a handful of waterfront parks and recreational sites in Beaufort, South Carolina that make for perfect picnicking spots. Visitors can walk along the boardwalks and take in the beauty of their southern surroundings!

Fripp Island is a favorite destination for people who enjoy water activities such as sailing and fishing. Considered one of South Carolina’s furthest barrier islands, the resort is located only a few miles from the Intracoastal Waterway marina, which is readily accommodating.

The sub-tropical temperatures attract a host of beautiful creatures to Flipp Island’s three and a half mile-wide wildlife sanctuary. You’ll be amazed at what other unique creatures you’ll stumble upon! Be on the lookout for beach-dwelling Loggerhead seas turtles, Lagoon-looming alligators, and sky-surfing pelicans when you tour the island.

Benefits of self-care

Why do so many people choose to vacation at the beach during the autumn months? It’s because it’s much more relaxing at this time of the year. While the rest of the world is preparing to turn over a new leaf in their schools, homes, and work places, you’re choosing to do so with the comfort of warm sand beneath your feet!

The sound of the ocean is peaceful to many, and actually helps you sleep better. A beach atmosphere also provides a replenishing dose of Vitamin D, which is great for your skin, hair, and diet. The coastal lifestyle attracts many people to the glorious beaches of Flipp Island and the surrounding South Carolina areas every year, where many people leave feeling energized and refreshed.

Your vacation is what you make of it, and if you’re choosing to vacation at the beach, you’ll definitely stay more active than most. Food and beverage doesn’t need to be the focus of your itinerary, although those things certainly enhance the experience. Walking on sand takes more muscle power than walking on pavement, so we encourage you to stroll along the coast of our island resort or join a group volleyball match on the beach!

We want to make sure you’re making the most of your fall vacation. Fripp & Harbor Island Properties knows how important it is to escape for a little while and enjoy the things you love to do the most. Why You’ll Want to Own a Vacation Home

If you’ve been debating whether or not a vacation home is right for you, Fripp Island Real Estate is here to help. Today, we’ll be talking about some of the many benefits you’ll enjoy when you own a vacation home! Just imagine being able to go on vacation whenever you want to!

Investment

A second vacation home is a great way to invest money for your family’s future. The real estate market may fluctuate from one month to the next, but overall it trends upward—which means that a vacation home is a great long term investment.

Along with the investment benefits that you’ll have after owning your home for a few years and then re-selling it, owning two homes will also afford you many tax breaks. If you rent the property for a few weeks out of the year, you can deduct your mortgage, interest and property taxes.

Rental Income

Speaking of renting the property, if you plan on only visiting a few times per year, why not rent the property out to other vacationers? It’ll be a great way for you to make extra income—you may even be able to recoup the amount you need to pay per month on your mortgage.

If dealing with rental applications and being a vacation landlord doesn’t sound like something you’d be interested in doing, you can always hire a local real estate agency to handle the rentals for you. They’ll post an ad for your home on their site, handle all of the nitty gritty business, and take a small cut of your rental income.

Convenience

Money Crashers says that the convenience of owning a second home can’t be underestimated. Rather than shelling out thousands of dollars for a vacation at a hotel, you’ll always have someplace to go that you know will be affordable, and knowing that your family will be comfortable is also a huge plus. Don’t worry about packing up the car and getting to your vacation destination, or tracking checked luggage. Instead, you can always equip your second home for everything you will need for your vacation!

Retirement

Owning a second home is a great way to plan for your retirement. If you purchase the home you plan to retire in before you reach retirement age, you can rest easy knowing that you’ll have a place to go that’s paid for. If you plan to retire in your vacation home, you may want to look for one-level homes, to make getting around easy as you get older. Many vacation destinations are built with older generations in mind, so you’ll be able to find the perfect home for retirement easily.

Family Tradition

For your kids, growing up with a vacation home will create memories that will last a lifetime, and encourage the building of traditions. They’ll make friends in your vacation town, learn about different cultures, and enjoy having their own space at the vacation home that they can make their own.

Vacation homes also make a great place to host family reunions, holidays, and special occasions. Extended family can come to stay and enjoy the home!

Fripp Island

If the idea of owning a vacation home sounds good to you, but if you’re not sure where you would like to settle, consider Fripp Island. Fripp Island is one of the most beautiful and luxurious counties in South Carolina; it’s a great place to buy a vacation home and even eventually retire.

Fripp Island is home to plenty of options when it comes to golfing, fishing, boating, and more vacation activities. It’s a quiet town, perfect for vacationing with your kids, and enjoying the beautiful beach scenery. Whether you’re looking for a large home with tons of acreage, or a condo in a community with amenities like a swimming pool and landscaping, Fripp Island has plenty of options for you.

Next Steps

When you’re ready to commit to buying a vacation home, the first thing you’ll need to do is identify where you want to buy. If you’ve decided you want to settle down on Fripp Island, next consider what kind of home you want: a single-family home, a one-story home with retirement in mind, or a condo. Zillow says it’s important to match your housing choices to your lifestyle, so think about what you’re looking for from your vacation home in the long term.

If you want to make the property mainly a rental property for now, you may want to consider homes that have guest houses where you can stay when you want to visit if you have a renter.

Go over the costs and the line items, and make sure you’ll be able to afford everything. Don’t forget to factor in property taxes.

When you know what you’re looking for, contact Fripp Island Real Estate at 843-575-2820 today, to get the search started! There are a wide variety of Fripp Island homes for sale so it’s easy to find the vacation or retirement home of your dreams!

Every October is the Owen Perry Inshore Tournament  where all proceeds benefit Camp Rainbow. This camp is for Children’s Hospital of Georgia hematology and oncology patients. At Camp Rainbow, children with cancer and their siblings spend relaxing, fun-filled days with children in similar situations.

Younger fishermen, ages 6 to 14, are able to compete in their own event, the Kid’s Fishing Tourney in November. This event is usually held the day after Thanksgiving and anglers aim for trout, bass, flounder, spot and croaker. Participants fish from the marina docks, boats, in the surf, private fishing hole or from the Maxwell Memorial Bridge. Since there is no entry fee, fishermen must supply their own rod, reel and tackle.

If you are interested in one of the annual tournaments, fill out the online application to get started. There are several terrific spots around the island to sit back, relax and reel in some fish.

The Benefits of Owning a Fripp Island Rental

Vacation Rentals Fripp Island Fripp Island is a great place to own a rental property. It’s a secluded hideaway with three and a half miles of beach. Located off the coast of sunny and warm South Carolina, Fripp Island is known as a place for relaxing. People use golf carts and bicycles to get around the island.

Do you like the idea of owning a place where the temperature is typically between 60 and 85 degrees? Fripp Island’s cold season gets down to 60 degrees, though most of the year the weather is sunny, warm, and beautiful, to the point where people feel like they’re in paradise. Indeed, many snowbirds dream of the days they can get away to Fripp Island when the temperature dips below freezing up North.

As a semitropical paradise, Fripp Island has many outdoor amenities besides the beach. There are two golf courses, several swimming pools, and tennis courts for those who live an active lifestyle. Meanwhile, there are places to go fishing and kayaking nearby, and if the timing is right you just might see dolphins in the waters around the island.

Golf Courses in FrippRental properties on Fripp Island appeal to people of all ages, including families with young children. There’s “Camp Fripp” and a seaside waterpark at Fripp Island Golf & Beach Resort for youngsters.

One of the ideal things about Fripp Island is its location, just a short drive away from the historic town of Beaufort, which features oak trees draped in Spanish moss. Visit Beaufort’s lovely historic district to be surrounded by quaint and charming old-world architecture. One “must see” is The Beaufort Arsenal Museum at 713 Craven Street. Completed in 1798, the museum will take you back in time as you view Indian artifacts, art, textiles, and even weapons from the Civil War era.

Where do people who rent a place on Fripp Island go to shop for fun? There’s the Fordham Market at the corner of Bay and Carteret Streets where many ladies enjoy browsing the jewelry, collectibles, antiques, artwork, and gifts for all occasions. For beach toys, clothing and souvenirs, a trip to the brightly-colored Barefoot Bubbas on Harbor Island is a fun time. Chocoholics simply must visit The Chocolate Tree. In business making chocolate on the premises since 1980, The Chocolate Tree is a real treat to visit for people of any age.

While you could eat at your Fripp Island rental home provided you go grocery shopping, oftentimes it’s nice to take a quick trip to Beaufort for interesting dining options. Many restaurants are known for offering live entertainment, including the Johnson Creek Tavern and Steamers Oyster & Steakhouse. Since you’re near the sea, visit the Shrimp Shack for seafood. It’s on Highway 21 between Beaufort and Fripp Island. Other seafood restaurants include Boondocks, the 11th Street Dockside Restaurant, and Barbara Jean’s. If you go to Barbara Jean’s you should try their signature item: Eastern Shore-style Crab Cakes. They’re filled with lump crab meat and no fillers.

Fun Things to Do at Fripp Island

Sunrise Fripp Island is one of South Carolina’s best-kept secrets. Whether you’re looking for a seasonal vacation home, or planning on a permanent relocation to paradise, Fripp Island might be the right place for you! We’re not simply a vacation spot, and the locals will tell you that we have tons of stuff going on all year round. Here’s a look at just some of the many fun things to do on Fripp Island that locals and tourists enjoy alike:

An Ocean Sunrise Unlike Any Other

Start the day off right while watching the sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean. Take a stroll on one of our gorgeous beaches, and maybe collect a few shells along the way. Since the island is narrow, you’re never more than a few minutes away from a beach.

For a new perspective, head over to the Hunting Island Lighthouse for a bit of exercise, and climb all 167 steps to the top. It seems a bit daunting, but we promise the panoramic view of the picaresque South Carolina coast is well worth it. You may find yourself going back to the lighthouse on a regular basis to check out the incredible view!

Outdoor Adventures at Fripp Island

Golfing at Fripp Island Once you descend from the lighthouse, hit the beach! If you’re not one to sit still and read a book, you can rent some kayaks or pontoons to keep things interesting from Fripp Island Golf & Beach Resort. They also offer golf cart, moped and bike rentals, all of which are great ways to tour the island.

If you love horses, contact Camelot Farms and arrange to ride horses along the shoreline! Owning a horse is a huge expense, but you can borrow one from Camelot whenever you’d like.

Take a guided water tour of Pritchards Island, which is uninhabited, and learn all about the ecological systems at work in this unique area from our naturalist experts.

Fripp Island History

Our island and the surrounding area is rich in American history: Spend some days on St. Helena Island, learning about Penn Center, one of the first schools for the children of freed slaves, and a small cottage where Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote his “I have a dream…” speech.

Once you’ve toured St. Helena, check out some of the other islands in the area like Beaufort, known for its historical downtown area, which is an officially designated historical district.

Dinner, Drinks and Movie Always Make For a Fun Night

If you feel like sitting still after all that activity, catch a movie at Highway 21 Drive In, a true drive in Movie Theater Fripp Island movie theater, one of the only remaining drive ins in the country.

At the end of the day, enjoy a frosty or frozen drink at The Sandbar, a casual ocean front bar known for its live entertainment and casual setting.

After a few drinks, if you’re interested in having a delicious dinner while taking in some incredible scenery, look no further than Bonito Boathouse. Enjoy a yummy meal with a view of the marina at this local hotspot known for its seafood, service and atmosphere. Locals love the she crab soup, and the Southern classic shrimp & grits!

These are just some of the many activities you and your loved ones can enjoy while you’re living on Fripp Island—and we didn’t even mention the golfing, fishing, bird watching or tennis! Contact me at john@fripprealestate.com for more information on purchasing a second home or relocating to this special paradise located in South Carolina.

Escape the Winter in South Carolina

Many retirees and those with flexibility in their working location are choosing South Carolina as their go-to destination to get away from the blustery conditions, cold temperatures and snowfalls that come from living in areas in the northern states. Fripp Island and the numerous Sea Islands along the ocean shores of the Southeast states are among the most popular locations for these winter getaways.

Neighboring Hilton Head Island recently topped the Movoto list of top places to retire in the state, with the on-shore towns of Bluffton and Beaufort ranking No. 2 and No. 7, respectively. The region is clearly booming as a retirement destination, with many different factors playing in to give the area such a high appeal.

Sea Islands South CarolinaMovoto notes that the greater Sea Islands region experiences some of the best weather in the state, with an average high temperature in the summer in the low 80s and excellent air quality. This is a distinct advantage for snowbirds and retirees alike. Moderate climates, clean air and ocean proximity – what more could you want from the environment at your new home?

Beaufort – the closest of these retirement havens to Fripp Island – also shines with amenities, boasting plenty of restaurants, a convenient public library system and the Habersham Marketplace, a great commercial center with retailers and professional office services available. Plus, backed by the city’s excellent cost of living score – 4 percent below the national average – the area is affordable too, making it an all the more appealing choice for retirees living on a budget.

The region is also centrally located, with easy access to several major Southern cities. Savannah, Georgia, is only an hour and a half away, while Charleston is located just two hours away by car, making both cities easy to reach if you’re looking to spend a day enjoying the sights and culture of these great destinations or plan to commute in from one of those cities’ airports.

Come see why so many people are finding their dream homes for retirement and vacations along the Atlantic shores of South Carolina. Take a look through Fripp Island Real Estate’s listings online now, or contact us today to start the search for your new home.

A Quick Trip Through Southern Heritage

golfingThe southern South Carolina coast is a region steeped in southern antebellum nostalgia. A short trip down coastal route 17 is perfect cross section of southern culture. Experience everything from the southern comfort cooking in the hundreds of restaurants dotting the region to one of the bed and breakfasts featuring southern hospitality.

The 60 mile trip between Charleston and Savanah offer the perfect southern daytrip under moss-draped oaks. Locally owned shops to stop off and browse for kitsch run the gamut from book stores, antique shops, pottery stores and furniture retailers.

Home to some of the best native trees for furniture building, the Lowlands are a haven for furniture enthusiasts and builders alike. Among the most solid, handmade wooden furniture available, the trees harvested in this region of the country include oak and a wide range of conifers. But in addition to the trees cut down and harvested are the long-felled swamp trees.

Because much of the backwoods in South Carolina is composed of peat swamp forest, fallen trees are not allowed to fully decay. This has to do with the high water table and subsequently waterlogged soil preventing oxygen levels from accumulating. The result is solid furniture with breathtaking grain patterns and knots.

Also on your way down the coast, be sure to stop off and visit the barrier islands. The Hilton Head Lowcountry resort island, serving as an entry point to the Port Royal Sound, offers some of the most spectacular golfing in the entire region. Meanwhile, Fripp Island has some of the best restaurants on the South Carolina Barrier Islands and very affordable real estate.
