Fripp Island is one of South Carolina’s best-kept secrets. Whether you’re looking for a seasonal vacation home, or planning on a permanent relocation to paradise, Fripp Island might be the right place for you! We’re not simply a vacation spot, and the locals will tell you that we have tons of stuff going on all year round. Here’s a look at just some of the many fun things to do on Fripp Island that locals and tourists enjoy alike:
An Ocean Sunrise Unlike Any Other
Start the day off right while watching the sunrise over the Atlantic Ocean. Take a stroll on one of our gorgeous beaches, and maybe collect a few shells along the way. Since the island is narrow, you’re never more than a few minutes away from a beach.
For a new perspective, head over to the Hunting Island Lighthouse for a bit of exercise, and climb all 167 steps to the top. It seems a bit daunting, but we promise the panoramic view of the picaresque South Carolina coast is well worth it. You may find yourself going back to the lighthouse on a regular basis to check out the incredible view!
Outdoor Adventures at Fripp Island
Once you descend from the lighthouse, hit the beach! If you’re not one to sit still and read a book, you can rent some kayaks or pontoons to keep things interesting from Fripp Island Golf & Beach Resort. They also offer golf cart, moped and bike rentals, all of which are great ways to tour the island.
If you love horses, contact Camelot Farms and arrange to ride horses along the shoreline! Owning a horse is a huge expense, but you can borrow one from Camelot whenever you’d like.
Take a guided water tour of Pritchards Island, which is uninhabited, and learn all about the ecological systems at work in this unique area from our naturalist experts.
Fripp Island History
Our island and the surrounding area is rich in American history: Spend some days on St. Helena Island, learning about Penn Center, one of the first schools for the children of freed slaves, and a small cottage where Martin Luther King, Jr. wrote his “I have a dream…” speech.
Once you’ve toured St. Helena, check out some of the other islands in the area like Beaufort, known for its historical downtown area, which is an officially designated historical district.
Dinner, Drinks and Movie Always Make For a Fun Night
If you feel like sitting still after all that activity, catch a movie at Highway 21 Drive In, a true drive in movie theater, one of the only remaining drive ins in the country.
At the end of the day, enjoy a frosty or frozen drink at The Sandbar, a casual ocean front bar known for its live entertainment and casual setting.
After a few drinks, if you’re interested in having a delicious dinner while taking in some incredible scenery, look no further than Bonito Boathouse. Enjoy a yummy meal with a view of the marina at this local hotspot known for its seafood, service and atmosphere. Locals love the she crab soup, and the Southern classic shrimp & grits!
These are just some of the many activities you and your loved ones can enjoy while you’re living on Fripp Island—and we didn’t even mention the golfing, fishing, bird watching or tennis!
